DISCOVERING OUR ORIGINS: A TRIP TO THE KUNA TULE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY IN URABA, COLOMBIA.

DISCOVERING OUR ORIGINS: A TRIP TO THE KUNA TULE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY IN URABA, COLOMBIA.

Traveling to an indigenous community to work with these women is a trip to the Colombia’s essence. Reach their houses with dirt floor and palm leaf roofs, earthy colors, tucked into the middle of green landscapes, contrasting with the infinity colorful of their costumes causes me an instant crush.

All these women who are almost always in groups, arrive at the workplace with their children. These last ones begin to observe how their mothers weave or sew and begin to create their weaves around 10 years old.

While working they can bring the pet unexpectedly , one of them can be a cat or a huge blue macaw that stands on the table to watch us working.

Spending an afternoon with them is quite an adventure, many do not speak in Spanish but does in their Kuna dialect, sometimes we have to communicate with the sign language, the smiles and the drawings.
